Expatriates: Our Journey & Vision
Expatriates have long been a major subject of discussion in our society. What expats can contribute back to their homeland and community has always been a key focus. However, there is a stark and unfortunate reality today: expats themselves are rarely present to speak up loudly or reach out to relevant authorities about what can be done for expatriates in return, and the profound hardships they endure.
Just like the vast number of expats, there is no shortage of expatriate organizations. Yet, it is precisely in this space that Edappal expats formed a collective under the name 'Edappalayam'. The organization envisions meaningful intervention and upliftment at every single stage of an expat's lifecycle—from the initial phase of arriving on a visit visa in search of job opportunities to the final phase of ending expat life and returning home.
Core Focus Areas of Edappalayam:
- Guidance for job seekers & placement aid
- Career advancement & promotion advice
- Artistic, cultural, & athletic talent promotion
- Financial planning & discipline workshops
- Health protection & medical awareness
- Cultural heritage orientation for expat children
- Government-level expat policy advocacy
- Emergency welfare & repatriation support
Every expatriate has a vital role to play in Edappalayam. Working hard solely for family and society is not an expat's only mandate—an expat also deserves to live a fulfilled, joyful life. That is the primary goal of Edappalayam. Expats shouldn't only enjoy the brief annual or biennial vacation. Every single day of our lives abroad should be a memorable moment to cherish.
Suitable Employment & Career Guidance Campaign
Guiding Students Right from High School Level
Edappalayam kicked off its flagship educational campaign by distributing the acclaimed career book 'What to Learn and How to Get a Job' (എന്ത് പഠിക്കണം എങ്ങനെ തൊഴിൽ നേടാം) authored by Mr. Muralee Thummarukudy (Head of Disaster Risk Reduction, United Nations Environment Programme - UNEP) to high school and higher secondary libraries in the Edappal region.
Early Malayali emigrants who arrived to overcome poverty possessed sheer courage as their primary asset. As a reflection of the sacrifices made by those early pioneers, today's generation arrives in search of employment equipped with a handful of certificates and degrees.
Regrettably, for a large majority of expats, there is a vast mismatch between the qualifications on their certificates and the actual jobs they perform. The fundamental reason for this gap is that candidates do not receive necessary career guidance beyond classroom syllabi to discover jobs aligned with their innate talents and qualifications. Edappalayam, aiming to support expats throughout their journey, bears a major responsibility in this domain, particularly during the initial stage of expatriate life.
Recognizing that providing career orientation solely after candidates arrive abroad on visit visas is impractical and insufficient, Edappalayam launched a proactive campaign focused on CAREER, PERSONALITY, & SOCIAL COMMITMENT starting right from the school level.
Following the library book distribution, Edappalayam organizes career workshops for degree students and vocational course graduates to instill confidence. For those coming abroad as job seekers, we facilitate interview opportunities matched to their qualifications with professional guidance. Edappalayam remains steadfastly committed to undertaking all necessary interventions to foster personality development, social commitment, and skill management among all candidates.
